THE 7 WONDERS OF AN AVOCADO

THE 7 WONDERS OF AN AVOCADO

Avocados are one of the most popular foods out there, they have made an impression on our salads, burgers, and Instagram accounts across the globe.

They are trendy, tasty and so versatile.

Avocados taste great but the multi-use fruit doesn’t stop at food, the avocado can be used to help nourish your hair & skin, improve brain activity, help nail growth and so much more.

Keep reading below to find out…

1. DIY FACE MASK

During this period, self-love and self-care is more important than ever.

It’s the small things in life that can really make a difference, and running a hot bath, lighting a candle and popping on a facemask can have a great effect on your mood.

Here is a recipe for an at home avocado face mask that can be made and worn at home

(great for those avocados that are just past their best)

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tsp of Honey
  • 1 tsp of plain yogurt
  • ½ a tsp of lemon juice

Mash up the avocado, mix all the ingredients together and pop in the fridge for 10 mins.

While your facemask is in the fridge, wash your face with a cleanser and pat dry, then apply your facemask and leave on for 20 mins.

Remove with warm water and feel run the back of your hand along your face. Baby bottom smooth.

2. IMPROVES BRAIN POWER

Avocados contain nutrients and healthy fats such as copper, Vitamin C & E, and folate.

These nutrients and fats are great food for the brain.

Avocados are a ‘fatty’ fruit, but don’t let that worry you, your brain is 65% fat and relies on fat to function correctly, so you’re doing your brain a favour by consuming healthy fats.

3. REDUCE STRESS

Avocados contain an anti-stress nutrient known as magnesium.

Magnesium can assist in the release of tension and help you to have a better night sleep. So next time you’re feeling stressed, just pick up an avocado and throw it at the thing that’s stressing you out…just kidding, add on into your next meal.

4. YOU CAN CREATE A DIY HAIR MASK

If you suffer from dry hair or experience it every now and again, this DIY mask could be the mask for you.

  • 1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2-3 drops lavender essential oil (optional)

Mash all the ingredients together by using either a food processor or a mixer (if you do not own either of these you can use a fork).

When the texture is creamy, apply to damp hair and really massage it into the roots. Tie your hair up into a bun and use heat from a hair dryer (or sit in the sun) for around 15 mins.

Then wash and rinse hair as you normally would.

The result will be soft, glowing, nourished hair – root to tip!

5. Assists in the process of weight loss

Avocados consists of oleic acid, which is a fat that stimulates a section of the brain that tell you that you’re full. Eating a whole avocado can help you feel full for a few hours, keeping you from indulging on those naughty snacks.

6. Boost vision

Avocados contain a carotenoid known as lutein which helps develop good eyesight.

An avocado also contains a good content of fat (mentioned once or twice) that helps your body the grip the carotenoids and other fat-soluble vitamins.

So, try adding a few slices of avocado to your breakfast in the mornings to give your eyesight that extra boost.

7. You can make a delicious guac!

Guacamole is a simple recipe to make than can be added to so many dishes such as wraps, salads, burgers and so much more.

It’s also a delicious and refreshing as a dip, just grab a handful of your favourite crisps and dip away.

The best thing about homemade guacamole is that you can make it to your own liking - spicy, mild, peppery - throw in just about anything.

Here is a recipe that I use when making Guacamole

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • ½ an onion
  • 2 chopped up tomatoes
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of pepper
  • 2 tbs of lime juice
  • Small handful of fresh coriander
  • Jalapenos to taste (I usually add about 4 as my partner isn’t too big on spice)

Mix it all together and VOLA! A yummy, fresh guacamole, ready to serve.

Now these are just 7 of the MANY things you can do with an avocado! Give it a try and see what you think…
