Laser Hair removal

How many treatments will I need?

Due to hair being in different stages of the growth cycle we know from experience that most people will need a minimum of 6 - 8 treatments.

Skin type, hair type, hair colour and area of the body all affect the results of the treatment and therefore results will vary between each client.

We have a great monthly subscription where payments can be paid monthly.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Whilst laser hair removal is not guaranteed to be completely pain-free, it is good to know that there are lots of options that your practitioner can use to make is as close to pain-free as possible.

These include a cool-air fan, specially formulated lotions, ice packs, adjusting the settings of the laser and as Beautology in Bristol has more than one laser hair removal machine a client can be switched to the machine that gets the best results for them and causes the least amount of discomfort.

What is the difference between IPL and laser and what does Beautology use?

There is no doubt that laser is the Gold Standard when it comes to permanent hair removal, they also cost more money to purchase and maintain and are therefore found generally in reputable clinics.

IPL being inferior and cheaper equipment are used mainly in beauty salons with less experienced and qualified staff.

IPL treatments are therefore generally cheaper per treatment however more treatments are generally required (Sometimes double or treble the number needed with laser) and will often be more expensive in the long term. Lasers produce faster results with fewer treatments required than IPL.

The client goal of ‘total hair reduction’ very often cannot be achieved with IPL as they may not achieve full and proper results and leave some stubborn hairs unaffected.

It is vital for effective results to choose a clinic that has more than one machine as different hair and skin types respond differently with different machines.

At Beautology we have three different machines, the renowned Polaris Yag Laser, the JKX Diode Laser ensuring that you will achieve your goal of being hair free.

Is there any down time with laser and what is the pre and after care?

There is no downtime post a laser treatment, a client can go on with their daily lives and normal activities.

However clients should avoid any heat treatments such as steam, sauna or hot baths or showers for 48 hours. Do not go into direct sunlight for 48 hours without SPF 30+ professional sun protection.

Swimming should be avoided and non-recommended creams or perfumed items should not be put onto the treated area for 24+ hours.

How long do I have to wait after my patch test for treatment?

We recommend at least 48 hours after the patch test for your first treatment

Will my hair ever grow back after the course of treatments?

The follicles that have been destroyed cannot grow back, however the body has many of dormant hair follicles which are not affected by the laser at the time of treatment. Future changes to your health or hormone levels can kick-start these dormant follicles into life which subsequently can start to grow in years to come.

This is perfectly normal and a top-up laser treatment can be performed to resolve the matter.

What happens following a laser hair removal treatment?

There is very little recovery time from Laser Hair Removal, though you may have some redness following the treatment which may last between one to eight hours.

During the following 48 hours, avoid any heat treatments such as saunas and hot showers and avoid exposure to direct sunlight. We recommend using a high SPF on exposed areas.

Am I allowed to shave or wax between treatments?

You can shave between treatments when starting a laser hair removal course. Please DO NOT wax as this can change the growth cycle of you hair which will affect the treatment.

How long do I have to wait between each treatment?

We advise getting treatments between 4 and 6 weeks apart.
