COMBINATION SKIN

PRODUCTS FOR COMBINATION SKIN

Combination Skin

Do you ever feel like half of your face is oily and half of it is normal or on the dry side? If yes, Then you have a combination skin type.

The part of your face that is usually on the oily side is your T-zone, this spans from across the middle of your forehead and down your nose. Sometimes it can also span to your cheeks near your nose and chin.

The part of your face that usually stays normal or is dry is your hairline, cheeks, eye area, down your chin to your neck. This can be a frustrating skin type to have, because you want to use products to help the oil reduce but it is drying out the rest of your face.

You can be having breakout and dry patches at the same time.

What causes Combination Skin

No matter what skin type you are, genetics plays the biggest role in what your skin type is. Most likely you got this from one of your parents. The reason why your t-zone is the area that gets oily is because that is where there are the most sebaceous glands (oil glands).

People with combination skin tend to have overactive sebaceous glands, which causes the extra oil and shine in that area.  A couple other things to consider that might be causing your combination skin are, not wearing proper protection in the sun, the sun can make your skin more dry creating more oil in the areas we do not want it.

Being stressed and not exercising enough can cause your skin to not get enough nourishment to work properly. Lastly you might just be using the wrong products that are making the conditions worse.

Tips to help your combination skin

  • Avoid fragrant products, these can irritate your skin causing your oil glands to over react.
  • Experiment with different moisturizers in different areas, only put thick hydrating cream on the dry areas of your face and neck, then only use an oil balancing cream on your t-zone.
  • Avoid products that clog your pores (like thick not natural makeup).
  • Use an exfoliant that is good for both skin types, very important to keep exfoliating off the dead skin cells.
  • Always make sure you are wearing SPF in the daytime and getting lots of exercise and rest.
