Dermaplaning Myths Busted:
01
Spots, Spots And More Spots
Quite the opposite.
A build up of dead skin can clog your pores and hair follicles, which can not only cause pimples but also block your skincare products from penetrating the skin, which is why exfoliation is essential for maintaining an even, healthy glow.
But, if you already have an existing breakout, you will need to wait until it clears up.
02
It Makes Your Hair Grow Back Darker And Thicker
Not at all.
Hair found on the face is known as vellus hair, rather than the dark, thick terminal hair that grows elsewhere.
Shaving does not in any way cause vellus hair follicles to transform into terminal hair follicles.
03
It's A Painful Treatment
It is one of the most effective and pain free ways of removing the peach fuzz on your face. This is compared to other methods like waxing and threading.
04
Only The Peach Fuzz Is Removed
Dermaplaning clears the way so skin peels, facials, skin products and serums can get penetrate deeper into the skin rather than sitting on the skin’s surface.
It helps get rid of excess oils, bacteria and all the dead skin cells gathered on your face.
05
Using A Razor Gives The Same Effect
Using at-home razors can easily pull, cut and cause irritation.
During Dermaplaning an extremely fine, surgical-grade blade is used to gently exfoliate the epidermis and is held at a 45-degree angle. It's gently brushed along the surface of the skin to remove thin layers of excess skin cells and fine hairs.
Dermaplaning won't cause any itchy shaving rashes, irritation or more breakouts.
06
I Can Wear Full Makeup Straight After
Try to avoid a ‘full’ makeup immediately after your Dermaplaning treatment and let the skin breathe for the rest of the day.
If you need to wear makeup, you can, but your skin barrier is more open and may become irritated.
Once your skin has had time to settle (24 hours), proceed with your make-up as normal.
07
My Skin Will Be Pierced And It Will Be Uncomfortable
You'll feel the sensation of the blade crossing your skin, which is similar to the way shaving with a razor feels. You may also hear a whispering sound as the scalpel blade crosses the top layer of your skin.
But you won't feel any discomfort, and your skin will never be pierced.
