Wearing a high factor, broad-spectrum sunscreen every day helps to protect against the suns potentially harmful UVA and UVB radiation, which can cause sunburn, pigmentation, premature ageing, wrinkles and skin cancers. 

Why broad-spectrum protection is important

Sunsense has a range of broad-spectrum sunscreens. This means they protect against both UVA and UVB rays from the sun when correctly applied to the skin.

UVA rays are those that penetrate deepest in the skin and are considered to be the primary cause of premature ageing and contributes to the development of skin cancer. UVA rays are present year-round and can penetrate through both windows and clouds. Up to 80% of UV radiation can penetrate through light cloud cover, so even when the sun is not shining on you directly you are still exposed. UVB rays do not penetrate as deep as UVA rays but are the main cause of burning, skin reddening and skin cancers.

UVB rays are strongest during summer months and in particular the middle of the day. Overall UVA rays are linked to ageing and UVB rays are linked to burning. However, both UVB and UVA rays can damage the skin and contribute to skin cancers, so it is essential to protect against them every single day of the year.
